Mission to You

Chapter 1

The alarm rang.

And rang.

And ra--

"Bloody hell," Desmond groaned as he smashed his new alarm clock with one fist. Seven a.m. was a little too early to rise after getting in from England just four hours before. But this meeting was too important to be missed.

He showered in his new shower stall and grabbed his new towel after he was done and dried himself. He shaved, and pushed his long brown hair back. When it dried it would come up to the base of his neck. He put on his new black suit with no tie and started on his coffee from his new coffee maker.

He then flipped on his new television to the national news and took slow sips of his coffee from his new mug.

Looking at his old faithful watch, he saw it was fifteen minutes to 7am. "Bollocks."

He grabbed his briefcase and his keys and rushed out of the new, huge apartment overlooking the San Fransisco Bay and in the hallway bumped right into someone. Someone soft he realized.

"Hell, Im right sorry about that." He said in his Scottish brogue as he offered a hand to what he just noticed was a beautiful angelic vision, dressed in a tight fitting suit...the skirt hugging the graceful curves of her body.

"Its okay," came an Australian accent as she put on her black high heeled pump which flew off as she fell. She grabbed his hand and looked up at him with a slight smile. "I was in a rush. Wasnt looking where I was going." She seemed a bit put off by being knocked down to the floor, but was polite about it.

She nodded and started walking towards the elevator...where he followed and she pressed the G for the garage.

They both stood next to each other, side by side in silence as the elevator music played. He smelled her...and never had he met a woman who smelled like roses and wild flowers.

She glanced at him and then straight ahead and said, "Ive never seen you around here before."

"Just moved in last night." He said with a charming smile. "Suite 15."

She smiled up at him and quickly back towards the doors, "I live in 16."

"Ah, then we're neighbors then." He offered his hand for her to shake, "Desmond Hume."

She finally looked at him for more than five seconds and gave a smile, her little dimple under the side of her lower lip exposed, "Claire Littleton." Shaking his hand.

It seemed to him that she was too shy.

It seemed to her that he was too friendly.

To both it seemed like the longest elevator ride ever.

Finally.

Ding.

The doors opened and both walked out in a rush. "Nice meeting you." He said to Claire, getting into his dark blue sports car.

"Likewise," she said with a polite smile, getting into her cherry red sports car.

The smoke filled the garage as she sped off into the day.

And he sped off ten seconds later.

---------

Walking into entrance after entrance, he finally made it to a room where about five people sat around a large table.

The bald man stood up and spoke, "Ah, nice to finally see you Agent 16."

Desmond smoothly sat on the nearest empty seat, noting that he was one minute late. "Its been a long while since Ive been in California traffic." Nodding he said, "But its nice to finally be here John."

Lockes blue eyes sparkled as he sat and spoke to the group at large, "This is Agent 16. 16, this is Agent 4," he pointed to a beautiful brunette who lounged back in her chair. Kate smiled back at Desmond.

Locke continued, "Next to her is Agent 8." Desmond looked at a man who looked like he worked for Armani. His elbow was casually leaing on Agent 4s chair and he fiddled with a pen in his mouth. The blonde man imperceptibly nodded.

"Over here we have our specialist Hugo Reyes and analyst Sayid Jarrah."

Hugo smiled at Desmond and said, "I dont have a cool agent number but I will one day."

"Just take Agent 23s number. Jackass is dying to compromise us all again." Sawyer drawled out as he still lounged on Kates chair.

Desmond chuckled lightly and looked back at Locke.

"Before we start, I take it you'd like to meet your new partner."

Desmond nodded and Locke flipped on the intercom. "Is she here yet?"

She? Desmond thought and looked curiously at Locke.

Not even a second later the glass door opened and in walked the woman he bumped into this morning.

He couldnt even speak.

Locke stood up. "Agent 16, I'd like you to meet Agent 15. Your new partner."

Both Agents froze as they gaped at each other.

"Guess theyre already acquainted," Sawyer remarked smartly and started chuckling.

Chapter 2

Claire finally sat down and ignored Desmond as much as she could, crossed her legs and said, "We'll talk about this later Locke." She said coolly.

Per usual, his bright blue eyes twinkled and he said, "Well 15, anything you say to me can be said in front of everyone else."

Claires own blue eyes twinkled and she said back, "With all due respect, this is a private matter."

Everyones eyes darted from Locke to Claire and back. Desmond leaned back and through chocolate eyes observed Claire. She was very attractive when she was angry. Aye, she looked a far cry from the nice and polite woman he'd met that morning. He could literally feel the fire coming from her.

And he also sensed this 'private matter' was about him. If those death ray glances she was giving him were any indication. So he decided to speak up.

"If this is about me-"

He instantly felt as if he were hit with a dragons breath of fire when she looked at him.

"Don't flatter yourself." Claire said.

Sawyer chuckled and Kate nudged him.

Sayid cleared his throat as Locke continued to look on, thoroughly amused. "We have a serious international matter that needs attending to right away."

Locke nodded at Sayid, "Of course." Looking back at Claire, "We'll speak after the briefing."

Looking satisfied and throwing another hard look to Desmond, she sat straight up and opened the folder Hurley handed to her.

Desmond smiled back at her, but it wasnt genuine and opened his own folder. Kate and Sawyer were already looking through their folders.

The moment Locke grabbed a small rod, the lights went down and the extremely smooth and flat television screen came on.

"This is..."

"I know who that is," Desmond said, looking at the picture that filled the monitor. He sounded very surprised when he said, "Thats Charles Widmore."

"So you want an award for knowing who that is," Claire muttered under her breath.

Sawyer choked on a sip of water he took and Kates eyes widened.

Desmond looked over at her and genuinely not hearing what she said, "What was that now?"

She looked up straight into his eyes and smiled brightly, "Nothing."

Locke continued as Desmond squinted his eyes at her and turned back to the screen, "Thats right. One of the most wealthiest men in Europe, if not the most. We got a tip that he's been buying and selling an ungodly amount of fairy dust and armed weapons under the table. One of the buyers," he clicked a button and another picture came up. "Benjamin Linus."

Sawyer moaned, "God almighty, not that prick again."

Locke only smiled and nodded, "Sorry to ruin your day 8. We couldnt nab Linus before, but now we've got the goods on him."

Desmond was curious, "What happened before?"

Sawyer snickered.

"Agent 23 is what happened." Claire spoke up and looked at Desmond, none too friendly. "He was paired with me and we were this close to getting him when good ole Jack Shephard ruined the entire deal. Almost got up compromised." She looked sorely at Locke, "Thats what happens with a bad pairing."

Desmond ignored Claires last part and said to Locke, "So why cant we get him? Theres enough evidence in here to lock him away for life."

Locke shook his head, "Enough evidence for Widmore, not for Linus. And we need Widmore to get to him. Agent 16 and 15," Claire and Desmond looked up, "Theres a ball tonight at Widmores home in a very high profile side of London. Our boys will be there and so will you two. Your mission: to find Widmores study and...Hugo."

Hurley stood up, almost dropping all the files in front of him. He took out a small device which looked like a ring. "This is the cool part...well for you 15," looking at Claire then Desmond, "Unless you wanted to wear it..."

Desmond put his hands up and shook his head. Hurley showed everyone the features, "This ruby is not really a ruby...made her myself," he said proudly. "But like...you plant this under his monitor and it sticks like a really cool magnet." He laughed....the only one who laughed...then continued, "Well then it starts sucking out information that'll be sent directly to Agent 8s," nodding to Sawyer, "computer in a top secret location. It takes exactly one minute to extract the files...." he paused, looked gravely at them and said, "then it explodes."

"What?" Claire gasped.

Hurley laughed and said, "Nah, just messin with ya. But yeah one minute and then you guys bail." He sat down proudly.

Claire breathed a sigh of relief and looked back at Locke.

"So thats it?" Desmond asked.

Locke looked at Desmond, "Not quite. Sayid?"

Sayid looked at Desmond, "We will be pinning you with a small device. You need to speak with Linus and get him to say the words, 'Maybe' and 'believe'."

"Why?" Desmond asked, curious.

"Just get him to do so for now." Sayid said.

Claire sighed, "So when do we leave?"

Locke smiled at her, "Right now."

Chapter 3

Agent 16, Desmond Hume, stepped out of the limo in front of Widmore Manor. His brown hair was slicked back with a rogue curl against his forehead and his face was cleanly shaved which presented his strong jaw more clearly. He wore an impeccable black suit which curved at every muscle in his body. Dashing was just a small word to explain how he looked.

As the limo departed, another one arrived and the driver promptly opened the door. He fixed his cuffs as he saw a red stiletto heel peep out and onto the fine pavement. A bare leg...smooth, then a knee and then the sparkle of a sexy deep green dress. He froze as he looked up and saw those huge baby blue eyes. Her dark red wig went perfectly with her complexion. It came down to her waist, a little longer than her real hair and the two front pieces of her hair swept back and tied with a diamond clip. It was Agent 15...and by God did she look amazing.

He cleared his throat and gathered himself as she walked towards him with a gloved hand and a silky sash around her shoulders. She didnt smile.

"It didnt work," he said in his deep voice into her ear as her hand went around the crook of his arm and he escorted them inside.

She ignored the shivers that coursed through her body and her blue eyes lit fire at him as she smiled, of course none too genuinely. "What didnt work?"

"Locke would have never given you a new partner. Face it. Your stuck with me." He smiled dashingly as he handed the invitation acquired by Sayid to the concierge of the manor.

He nodded in satisfaction and announced at the top of the balcony which led into a grand ballroom. "Presenting the Duke and Duchess of Huntington." Desmond and Claire walked down the grand staircase. "Im a duchess am I?" Claire said sarastically, knowing Sayid gave Desmond a few choices of identities.

"It was either that or the Count of Valkenvania in Transylvania...and you dont resemble a witch." He turned to look at her with sarcasm dripping.

She stomped on his foot and then fluttered a fan in her face as he kneeled over in pain a little. She smiled brightly at the passerbys. It was a packed house.

He strained to say, "I'll get you for that later."

"I'll be waiting for it." She said haughtily.

He squinted his eyes at her and she lifted her chin, "We're here for business. Now lets get to it."

"Lose the Aussie accent," he said in a superb English accent.

She turned sharply to him, "Dont tell me how to do my job." She pressed her ruby earring, "8," she whispered, "Connected?" Desmond grabbed two flutes of champagne.

In a van, in the woods a mile or so away, Kate and Sawyer had the operation running. Screens up as Claire connected and more screens with views of the party as Desmond secretly turned on his few cameras on him. Audio was now running. Headphones over his ears, he said, "Yippee ki yi yay, we're now in progress boys and girls." He said as he smiled and typed a few codes into a keyboard.

Kate smiled at him and put on her headset, "With me Agent 16?"

Desmond took a sip of his champagne, "You two are missing one hell of a party." He handed the other flute to Claire. She took it and didnt sip. "They've got witches here and everything." As he turned towards Claire, Kate caught her seething face and she tried not to laugh.

"Yeah well, we'll get to one hell of a party when you two hurry this Big Trouble in Little China up."

Kate looked at him, "Whats that supposed to mean?"

He winked at her, "You know."

Biting her bottom lip, she turned back to the screens.

Desmond looked on as people started to dance and the last of the guests arrived. The music stopped and a new tune began.

"Ladies and Gentlemen. Charles Widmore and Miss Shannon Rutherford, international opera star."

Everyone clapped their hands and looked at the top of the grand staircase when Charles came down with an attractive young blonde on his arm. He couldnt stop looking at her. She wore a long tight red dress which sparkled in the light and her hair was all up in some kind of doo.

Claire noticed him gawking at her and started simmering inside though she didnt know why. She couldnt care less if this 'know-it-all-international-James-Bond-wannabe-spy' gawked at anyone!

"Lovely Mr Huntington," Claire said to Desmond, "You've got drool coming down your chin," she said in a superb British accent. "I think it catches the light wonderfully."

He looked down at her and smirked, "Jealous?"

She looked completely aghast, "Of what?"

Widmore, with Shannon on his arm, stepped into the crowd and greeted the throngs on people.

Desmond didnt answer but continued to smile in that pompous way Claire hated.

"Why arent you answering me?" Claire demanded in a loud whisper.

"Why should I?"

"Why you insufferable-"

"Hey hey hey!" Came in Sawyers voice, "When you two old married people stop playin ping pong, we got a job to do."

Claire cleared her throat and jutted her chin up. "Right. Sorry." Gathering herself as Desmond continued to smirk and boy did she want to punch him just then, she turned and spotted Linus. "Theres your mark." she said shortly. Desmond quit his carefree attitude and looked on at Benjamin Linus, walking towards Widmore through the crowd like a snake in the grass.

"How many 8?"

Sawyer typed a few things and said, "Four on the up," he spoke of guards. "Theres a set of backstairs down the south hallway," he shook his head, "Clear as a bright Alabama sky." He snickered, "Dammit, but all your exits are guarded."

Claire nodded, "I'll try and slip out when I can."I'll come up with something." She looked up and Desmond was already walking towards Widmore.

Claire didnt seem very optomistic about what was about to happen. The last time they tried to catch Linus...and Jack messed everything up...all of her senses went out of the window and she rushed to Desmond. Touching his arm, he turned back and she saw a different look in his eyes. It wasnt the taunting, condescending look she was used to. It was all business. And he'd never looked more handsome than in that moment.

Showing just a speck of surprise, he asked, "Whats wrong?"

She tried her hardest to come up with something...something that wouldnt give away her doubt in his abilities. She looked back at Widmore, "He's about to go and dance." She pointed behind Desmond and he turned. Sure enough Charles was about to tango with the beautiful Shannon Rutherford. Linus was nowhere to be seen at the moment. Desmond knew his chance was done and he'd have to wait for another.

He turned to Claire again, "Well then. All exits pretty guarded?"

"At the moment. We'll need a diversion for me to get to a clear hallway that leads to the study."

Desmonds jaw clenched and he asked, "What kind of diversion?"

"Just leave that to me. For now-"

"Shall we dance?" He asked with a charm she never knew he possessed.

Her blue eyes widened, "What?"

"Wig get caught in your ears?" He smirked.

She rolled her eyes and then looked up at him.

"I can spot Linus as we gallavant through the dancefloor." He offered his hand and then nodded towards the dancefloor, "Come along now Mrs Huntington. Must keep up with pretenses of course."

She sighed softly and then put her hand in his. Gloves and sash taken by a footman, she walked onto the dancefloor as the tango continued. The feel of his hand on hers sent jitters down her spine. Looking eye to eye, steam almost coming out of his, they joined the throng of people dancing.

"I'll teach you as we go along," he said with arrogance.

She snapped, "I know how to tango."

"Show me."

She nearly melted under those two, deep throated words.

She'd show him alright. And he'd never forget it.

Chapter 4

Just then, the orchestra began to play...

He looked down at her and smiled when the music began.

She had an attitude when she smiled. Squinting her eyes in defiance.

He grabbed her waist with one hand.

She placed a hand on his shoulder.

He grabbed her other hand and held it up stiffly.

She tugged at her arm and held it up higher, raising her brow, challenge in her eyes.

Still standing stiff, he winked at her.

She made a disgusted, haughty face. A face that said 'You'll see.'

His face answered, 'Lets.'

And the challenge began.

And slowly, they began to move to the soft music.

She noted how sharp his moves were and she desperately wanted to show him up. So concise were her own moves. Desmond was impressed with her footwork and as she kicked between his legs, he lifted a brow at her. They had eye contact the entire time.

He was starting to get warm as the dance and the music continued. The sexual tension between them ignited. She straddled his one leg and slid down slowly, never breaking eye contact.

Her dark red lips were slightly parted and she let out a gasp as she felt the sparks between them.  He brought her up quickly, sharply, and they were in an instant body to body, pressed against each other.

He started walking sharply and she kept the pace as their breaths mingled in the heady room.

He found himself staring at her lips then and she at his.

"Lovely moves 15," he whispered.

His breath smelled like scotch and she found her first smile. She wondered why she did smile...maybe she liked the smell of liquor on his breath.

"I told you I'd show you."

The music took a sharp turn and he dipped her sharply, her back ramrod straight, one leg kicking up. She came back up just as quickly and felt her insides boil. That dip was so sexual...but she tried to put it out of her mind.

"And I've still to see something that impresses me lass," he lied, for he was far too impressed already.

Incensed by his words, she blushed with anger and circled him in beat to the music. He also circled her and had one hand behind her neck, then dipped her beside him and brought her back up. She immediately gripped his hands and did more fancy footwork between his legs and around them, circling him and showing who exactly was boss.

He took his big hands, not to be outdone, and turned her around so that her backside was pressed up against him. Wearing her like second skin, he took a few steps to the right in time with the music, she followed, placing her hands over his. He did the same thing, taking a few steps to the left and she couldnt help but follow, stuck to him like glue, feeling him and his heat behind her. Her breath became rapid.

She answered his demand and turned sharply, wrapping one leg around his waist, her skirt riding up, her bare thigh exposed. Taken for a loop, he gasped sharply and she smiled in triumph. She leaned all the way back and then came up again and he inwardly growled. So he walked backwards, still in time with the music, and dragged her along, her leg still up, the other dragging.

She took her exposed leg and sharply retreated, standing in front of him, hand still clasped, space between them. Both were breathing hard as they stared at each other, one waiting the others next move. Something happened then...a spark or fire...whatever it was...it was interrupted.

Claire was suddenly sidestepped and pushed aside while the beautiful and alluring Shannon Rutherford, opera singer from France, took her place. Grabbing Desmonds hands and pushing herself on him.

Claire then realized that there had been a circle gathered around them, staring at their dance. She blushed when she realized they were putting on a show.

Then became angry beyond angry when she realized what had just happened. She looked at the new couple on the dancefloor and was suddenly sinking into the crowd as they all gathered closer to watch Desmond and now Shannon dance.

Sawyers voice in her ear made her jump, "Good job settin' up that distraction. Ya gotta move now."

Touching her ear, still staring...no, now trying to still get a glimpse of Desmond and Shannon, she stepped back and looked around. She saw her way out and took it.

Swiftly, she moved and found Widmores study and his computer. It was dark inside. It smelled like leather and a burned out fire place...it was very male.

The window was behind the desk and it filtered in the soft light of the moon. The ruby ring Hurley made sparkled and she took off the stone and placed it on the modem of the computer. Within seconds, the light of the monitor came on and a password was prompted.

She spoke to Sawyer quietly, "Password?"

"Penis." Sawyer said snidely.

"What?" She asked sharply. "This isn't a time for jokes-"

"I aint jokin mamacita, just type it in."

She did and sure enough the downloading began.

She took in a deep breath and hoped this would work.

A few seconds later she heard a noise in the hallway. "Shit." She whispered as the footsteps drew closer.

"Ain't no time for a bathroom break 15." Sawyers voice came in.

"I'll handle it." Claire said. Desmond should have had the queens attention by now, she thought bitterly, not understanding why she was so bitter to begin with.

She glanced at the computer and the download read that there was 30 seconds left...biting her b
ottom lip...she prepared herself for the fight.
