She was beautiful even at such a young age. Equal parts her mother and father with long brown wavy hair and piercing blue eyes. She played quietly in the sandbox at the park with the other children. Her smile could light up the world or at least her father's heart.
He sat and watched her, smiling at how much she was like her mother. He still remembered the night she was born. She was everything they had ever lived for.
Penny had finally found him and rescued him from his island prison. They had gone on the run together, hiding from both her father and his nemesis Ben who was after her for revenge.
They only wanted a normal life, a marriage, a child. But life on the run was making that impossible. But then Penny became pregnant. Desmond had never been happier in all his life, neither had Penny. This is what they had lived for, had hoped for.
He took care of her the best way he knew how. But she started to give birth way before it was time. He hurried to find a doctor to help, but it was too late, shortly after childbirth, Penny died thanks to poison given to her by Ben.
The baby hovered between life and death for days. Desmond held her in his arms. His little angel. His little Elizabeth Penelope Hume. Her spirit was strong and she fought back, finally winning the war against the poison.
Desmond made sure that neither Widmore nor Ben knew that she existed. She was safe now. He told her about her mother over and over. About how strong and beautiful she was and how much Penny loved her little baby. She gave him the strength to go on. She was all he lived for now.
Elizabeth saw her father sitting on the park bench, looking sad. She hated when he looked sad. "Daddy, don't be sad," she said hugging him. "I love you."
"I love you too lass."
Elizabeth knew something that would make him happy. "Daddy, tell me about Mommy again."
Desmond smiled and told her the story once again of her mother, how much he loved her, and how much she loved her little Elizabeth. He would never tire of telling that story and she would never tire of hearing it.
i realized i forgot to leave a review for this so i'm gonna do it, it was wonderful.
You wrote a great Despenny fic for such an ardent Daire person as yourself and that little girl so sweet, I can just hear Desmond calling her lass even now
