I promise like hell...hell hell that i'm working on Chapter 10 of Trapped. In fact planning on finishing it tomorrow, but I figure i'm not the only one here that's got 2 fics running at the same time (attention: Lyndi :D)  I had to put this one up... feeling creative as hell lately as you all know..

And an addendum: I haven't figured out exactly what time or century this is taking place in yet.. will figure that out soon.. but I do like where it will go just the same.. enjoy

Chapter 1: Meetings and First Glances

She moved along the marketplace, it was night and they were closing up. It was considered bad to operate at night. The villagers gave the evil eye sign to anyone who moved within those hours. They were a spirit, or friends with the devil. This girl was a little bit of both, at least in her own mind.

Avoiding the carriages, she found her way to riverfront area to the meeting place. She located James almost immediatly and smiled, adjusting the hood on her head, which protected her from the rain. Coming up to her friend she handed him the package.

"Pickings were good today." She said as they turned to walk. "Men can be very stupid about what they carry in their pockets.."

James smiled his roguish smile and walked side by side companionly with his friend, checking what she'd managed to steal today.

"Maybe they just simply can't resist yer charms Shannon." He told her as they neared the outer edge of the traders village. "Men can rarely resist a beautiful woman who knows how to use her hands."

No one closing up shop took notice of the 2 of them, wearing what could best be called street clothes. They lived on the outskirts of society for the most part. And they were very close. But they weren't lovers. They were business partners and friends, the only person that either one of them trusted in the dark world they were living in.

"Ye flatter me James...it tis pure skill and luck.." She smiled at him, as they found their sleeping area for the night. It changed every night. "Speaking of luck... did you manage to part some idiot of their money and pride tonight?"

James laughed, thinking of his own exploits that night.

"Yes in fact I did, a deliciously stupid woman of means fell for me roguish charms.. so we be eatin well tonight.."

"Very good then I see we both had good luck today.."

They ate and watched the circus of night closing down. A man and a woman came by. The woman as beautiful, coffed up. Everything Shannon had been before this life. Before she'd run away from it, from the darker side of it that she refused to think about. Pushing it aside they watched from the shadows as the woman, who had long dark hair, seemed to disagree a bit with her compainion.

"Your father says and that's enough Katherine.. I know you don't like but you'll get used to me.."

"Maybe I will and maybe I won't.. not that I have a say.."

James seemed to be a bit fascinated with this woman, causing Shannon to nudge him and put her hand over her mouth in a giggle.

"A bit enamoured my good friend?"

James smirked and then turned back to her.

"Not on yer life, just markin this one too.. who knows..maybe she's rich.."

"Always thinking ahead.. I should've known.." She wiped her mouth and stood up as the couple moved away. "I'm going to go wash me face.. that last wanker I kissed tasted awful.."

James smiled and watched her go, finishing eating as he turned to see if that couple was still around. That girl looked way too good for the guy she was with, even though he was dressed royally well. He marked her face, wondering if she'd be around for the next days work.

Shannon meanwhile walked to the river and and washed her face, taking a handful of water from it, and it was surpringly clean. She washed her face and and next and then got up to go back to the shelter. Her skirt had gotten wet and she looked down and walked full tilt into someone nearly falling over.

"Blast! Watch where yer going you dolt!" She admonished to the man, whose face she could barely see.

"A thousand pardons madam, I will watch myself from now on..." he told her, pushing his own hood slightly away from his face. "I am new in these parts.. I was looking for the trade markert.."

"It's over there.. but it is close to nightfall and it will shut down soon" She pointed in the direction of it. "It's not safe after dark."

"Then what are you doing out then?"

"I can take care of m'self gent.. now if you excuse me.. I have dinner waitnng.."

She stepped away and the man watched. A stranger in a foriegn coutnry. The young woman sat down with her companion and seemed to eat what looked like garbage for dinner. She seemed much better than that. But he had to focus on his task, had to meet the supplier, to go there, and be back on the boat very soon. It was dangerous.

But she was fascinating, with the light colored hair poking out of her hood, and those sharp blue eyes. But this man had no time for the woman of this country. He couldn't waste it. He only had a few days in this village. Which was far too close to London for his comfort.

The man turned to find shelter for the night. Would go to the market in the morning. Time to get some rest.

"Who was that?" James asked, as they got comfortable on the either side of their fire.

"Just a man whose not watching where he's going that's all.. g'dnight James.."

And night settled in over the village. A damp foggy one. And for some reason Shannon kept thinking of that man. She'd caught a glimpse of warm brown eyes under his hood. But it mattered not. She wasn't likely to see him again. Or so she believed.
