This is a new fic that I'm just starting...

I hope y'all like it.

Chapter 1

He stood on the starboard side of the ship watching the Gerogia coastline go by.  His thoughts turned to Kate, as they always did when he was alone.  Her father had forbade James from seeing her and he had promised her off to a prominent doctor there in Savannah.

-- FLASHBACK --

“Look at yourself, Ford.”  Her father had said.  “On that ship, you’re someone.  You’re the handsome rogue, but in proper Savannah society, you’ll never measure up to a prominent doctor.”

-- END FLASHBACK --

James remembered his words and new he was right.  He would never measure up to the doctor.  As he was thinking his brother and first mate walked up to him.

“Whatcha thinkin’ Brotha?”  Desmond asked.

“Nothin’.”  James answered.

“You can’t lie to me, James.  I’m you’re brotha, remember?”  Desmond asked.

“Yea, I know.”  James said.  “Just got a lot on my mind.”

“You have Kate on your mind.”  Desmond said.

James cut his eyes to him.  “And what makes you so damn sure?”

“I know you James.  I know who you are.”  Desmond said.  “I know how much you love her, but I also know you can’t have her, and it’s eatin’ ya alive.”

“I gotta find me a whore.”  James  said, as he stepped back toward the cabin of the ship.  They had sailed out of Savannah and were passing through the channel on their way up the Atlantic to Charleston, South Carolina.

“What?  The wenches at the bar didn’t help you?”  Desmond asked.  “They were all over ya.  I even saw one doin’ her damnest to pleasure you right there in the ale house.”

“Didn’t mean nothin’.”  James said.  He opened the door to his cabin.  “See that the crew’s got their jobs done.  Tell cook we’ll eat in an hour.  We got the manifest list to go over.”

“She loves you James, you know that.”  Desmond said.

“No.  No, she don’t.”  James said, shutting the door behind him.

------------------------

Kate flung herself down on the feather bed and cried her eyes out.  “Why?  Why did he do it.”

“I dunno child.”  Mama Shallis said as she busied herself around Kate’s bedroom.  She hung up her clothes and folded her corset and placed it in the drawer.  “Your papa think he know the right thing to do.”  She said in her thick West Indian accent.

“I love him.”  Kate screamed into her pillow.  “I want to be with him.  I want to marry him.”

“Yes, Missy, y’do, but you papa, he say no.”  Mama Shallis said.

“I’m sick of Papa running my life!  Who is he to say who I can marry or not marry!”  She cried.  “I’m going make him pay for this!

Mama Shallis grabbed her by her shoulders and held her.  “No you not!  You gwan to marry Dr. Jack and that is that.  If James want you, he come for you.  You not gwanna make a problem.”

She relaxed her hold on Kate.  “You know how it be Miss Kate.  Husband make the rules.  If you don’t want Dr. Jack hurt you, you just be nice.  Wife serve her husband.”

Kate clenched her teeth.  “I don’t want to serve him.”  She said.

“It dangerous you to go against Dr. Jack and you papa.”  Mama Shallis said.

“I don’t care!  I love James and I want to marry him!”  Kate raised her voice.

Mama Shallis gazed into her green eyes.  “You best be warned, eh?”

--------------------

James stood at the wheel of the ship after dinner.  He and Desmond had gone over the manifest and had checked everything over.  They had to make sure everything was hidden well in case the ship was boarded when they were in port.  Blockade running was a crime punishable by hanging.

He turned the wheel to make port at one of the harbors not far up the shore.  It would take a few more days to get to Charleston and they had already been two days on the ship.  His deck hands were getting antsy and tired and they all needed the release of a good drink at a pub.

And James needed something else.  He needed to release himself of the memory of Kate at least for a while.  The docked the ship at the little harbor and disembarked the ship.

“Where’re you goin’, brotha?”  Desmond asked.

“I told you earlier, I need to find a whore.”  James said.

“Yea, well I’m not lookin’ for a whore, I’m lookin’ for a wife.”  Desmond said.

“And you think you gonna find one here?”  James asked.

“Ya never know.  She might be a barmaid for all I know.”  Desmond answered.

James chuckled a little and shook his head.  “Fine, let’s go find you a wife then.”  James said.  They walked down the dock and found a little pub close to the docks.  It was filled with sailors laughing and drinking and having a good time.

James and Desmond walked in and looked around the bar.  They found a table and within minutes a raven-haired wench came over and brought them two beers.

“Evenin’ Captain.”  She said to James.

“What makes you think I’m a captain?”  He asked, deepening his dimples.

Her eyes twinkled a little.  “Lucky guess.”  She said softly.

He gazed into her eyes.  “What’s your name?”  He asked.  She sat down on his lap and let her hands roam over his shoulders and chest.

“Whatcha want it to be?”  She answered.  He smiled a little.  She was good at this and she knew it.  He figured she was quite expensive.

“Seriously.”  He said.

She smiled a bit.  “It’s Elizabeth.”

Chapter 1 (cont'd)

“Nice name.” He said. Her hands moved down his torso to his cock. She began to rub it and grasp it through his britches.

James closed his eyes and let his mind feel Kate and this bar maid stroked his hardening cock. She nuzzled his neck and left little licks and nibbles on his skin. He groaned softly as she pleasured him.

“We can go upstairs if you want.” She whispered.

“How much?” He asked her.

“$25.” She answered. “Union money, I don’t take Confederate.” She was smart enough to know that the Confederacy was in trouble and there money wouldn’t be good for much longer.

“That’s a bit stiff.” He answered. “I can hire about 10 deck hands for that.”

“Deck hands can’t do what I do.” She said. She pulled away from him just a bit. “Come on.”

He followed her up the stairs into her room. It was papered in red tufted wallpaper and plush velvet drapes. There were dozens of mirrors in the room and the bed was overstuffed and he could tell she knew a lot about pleasuring a man.

She opened the door and they stepped inside. She immediately began to take off her dress and then her corset. In James’ mind all he saw was Kate and how she undressed the first time he made love to her.

James’ eyes smoldered as Elizabeth stepped close to him. She had a perfect little body, but in his mind it was Kate’s. She pushed his britches down to his knees and dropped to hers in front of him. She took his hard cock in her mouth and ran her tongue over it.

James closed his eyes and let her give him the ultimate pleasure. Her hands roamed over his legs as she licked and sucked him. She wrapped her hands around his cock and stroked it as she gazed up at him.

He had his eyes closed. Elizabeth knew enough about the men who frequented her bar to know she wasn’t usually the woman they were thinking about. Most had their minds on the women they’d left behind, and James was no different. She didn’t mind. She was much more philosophical about it. She thought of herself as providing a service, and at least at this moment, for James, she was.

He tensed his legs as he felt the pressure building inside of him. Her mouth worked it’s magic on him and she felt him swell deep in her throat and then release with a deep groan. She got back up and sat down on the bed as he straightened his britches.

“Thanks, Elizabeth.” He said, kissing her hand.

“My pleasure captain.” She said with a smile. He took out $50 and handed it to her. “I pay well for people who know what they’re doin’. No matter what the job.”

She smiled. “Thank you.” She stuffed the money inside her corset. “James? Go find that woman and marry her.”

“What?” He asked.

She got up off the bed. “I’ve been doin’ this a long time. I can tell when a man’s missin’ the woman he loves. You are. And, you need to go find her.”

James looked down at the floor. “Again, thank ya ma’am.” He said as he walked out the door.

----------------

“What’s your name lass?” Desmond asked.

“I’m Claire.” She said. She leaned over the bar. “What’s yours?”

“Desmond. Where are you from?” He asked.

“Australia.” She said.

“Not true, luv. Everybody knows Australia is a penal colony.” He said.

“Actually, there’s a small part near Sydney where I’m from.” She said. “You’re a Scot aren’t you?”

“Yes, but I live here now.” Desmond said. “I work with my brother. We own a ship.”

“Really? Which one?” She asked as she filled more beer steins.

“The Black Rock.” He answered.

Claire stopped and looked over her shoulder at him. “It is said that your ship is the most profitable blockade runner in the South.”

“Well, perhaps.” He answered. “I would like to see you again Claire.”

“I’d like that too Desmond.” He said. Just then James came down the stairs. He nodded to Desmond that he was going back to the ship. James smiled at him.

“My brother.” Desmond explained.

“Yes, I recognize Captain Ford.” Claire said. “His reputation preceeds him.”

“I s’pose I should go now.” Desmond said. “I will see you again soon lass.” He said, kissing her hand.

“I will look forward to it.” Claire said.

-------------------

Desmond caught up with James and they walked back to the ship. “So I assume you took care of yourself?” He asked.

“What do you think?” James asked.

“I think you’re a fool, brotha.” Desmond said. “And I think you need to fight for Kate.”

Chapter 2

Kate woke up the next morning and went down to the breakfast that cook had fixed and Bolls had served.

“Mawnin’ Miss Kate.” He said.

“Good mornin’ Bolls.” She said. She stopped to look at the older man. “Did you take your medicine this morning, Bolls? You look tired.”

“Yes’m Miss Kate. I did.” He answered. Kate nodded and stepped into the dining room. She stopped dead in her tracks.

“Ah, good morning Katherine.” Her father said. There at the side of the table was Dr. Jack Shepherd, the man her father had demanded she marry. Kate hated him. He was pompous and rude and Kate couldn’t stand him.

“Father. Jack.” Kate answered. Bolls followed her in and pulled her chair out. He fixed her a plate and sat it down before her.

“You look lovely this morning, Kate.” Jack said.

“Thank you Jack.” She answered politely. Kate rolled her eyes to herself and ate her breakfast.

---------------

James woke up to the ship being about 15 miles off shore. He’d fallen asleep in his bunk after the night he and Desmond spent on shore. He tried to keep Kate off his mind but it was no use. He loved her and sometime soon he’d have to be able to spend some time with her, no matter what Ben thought.

“James!!” Desmond burst through the door.

“What?” James asked as he pulled his britches on.

“We’ve got a leak and we’re takin’ on water, brotha.” Desmond told him.

“Shit.” James said. “Put some men in the bottom and have them patch the hole. How bad is it?”

“Now bad, we can stay afloat at least a half day.” Desmond said.

“Turn about and make port in Savannah.” James said. “We got no choice.”

That was the best thing that could have happened. Now he’d have a chance to see Kate while the ship was being repaired. Desmond left to carry out James’ orders and he felt the movement of the ship as it turned around.

James made a run down to the cargo hold to see how everything was holding up. It wasn’t too bad and thankfully could be fixed. There was about 3 inches of water in the bottom of the cargo hold and it splashed up on his boots as he walked.

He came back up to the deck of the ship and ordered the sale to be raised so they could get into Savannah harbor a little sooner. Before long they were docking the boat. James went back down to the hold and checked it. The water was a little deeper but not much. The ship could still be saved.

--------------

Kate had been back up in her room for a while. Mama Sallis came in to see her. “I’m goin’ into town Ms. Kate. I will be back a bit later. You wan go with me chile?” She asked.

“No, I’m alright here. At least up here I don’t have to see Jack.” Kate said flopping down on her bed.

“Alright then Cherie,” Mama Sallis said in her deep West Indies accent. “You best keep to y’self, you hear?”

“I know.” Kate said.

Mama Sallis had one of the field hands drive her into town so that she could do the shopping she wanted to do. Mama Sallis was not a slave and never had been. She was Kate’s wet nurse and nanny when she was a baby, and then her servant as Kate grew up.

The carriage pulled into town and Mama Sallis got out and went from store to store doing the shopping she had planned to do.

---------------

James and Desmond opened the door to the harbor master’s office and stepped inside. They spoke with the clerk and made arrangements to have the ship dry docked and the hull repaired.

“It should take a few weeks, Cap’n.” The clerk said. “I assume y’men can find a way to busy themselves while they’re here.”

“Oh yes.” James said. “They’ll be keepin’ the ladies busy. They all got money to spend.”

“Excellent.” The clerk said. “We should have the hull patched an resealed in about 3 weeks, as I said.”

“That’s fine.” James said. They left the office and walked down the dock to a store that would outfit the ship.

Mama Sallis walked on to the dry goods store next to the ship outfitter. She stepped inside and ordered the items that she needed. She took a couple of them home with her and had the other larger items delivered.

She opened the door and turned and ran full on into James.

“M’pologies sir.” Mama Sallis said hanging her head.

“You ain’t gotta apologize to me, ma’am.” James said.

She recognized the voice and looked up and smiled. “Mornin’ Mama Sallis.” James said.

“Mista James.” She said. “So good to see you, Mista James.”

“Good to seem, Mama Sallis.” James said with a sly smile. “What brings you into town this mornin’?”

“Well sir, I gwana get what we need at the house.” She answered.

“Good, don’t you stay out here in the heat now, you hear?” he said.

“Yes sir.” She answered.

James looked down at the ground for a moment. “Uhm, Mama Sallis, I wanna see Kate. Will you tell her to meet me?”

“Mista James…” She began.

“I need t’see her.” He said. “I’ll be in Savannah for about 4 weeks while my ship’s bein’ repaired. Please Mama Sallis, she loves me.”

She placed her hand on his face and stroked it softly. “I know she do.” Mama Sallis said. “But her papa, he a bad man.”

“I can handle him.” James said.

“I tell her.” She said.

James held her by her shoulders. “You tell her, I’ll be at the ruins of the old church. She knows where it is. You tell her to meet me there, tomorrow, 4 o’clock. You got that?”

“Yessir Mista James, I tell her.” She said. “It be dangerous. You protect her, eh?”

James smiled. “With my life.” James kissed Mama Sallis’s cheek. “You just get her there.”

--------------

Desmond walked back into the bar again. “Afternoon brotha.” He said to the bar tender. “Is Claire here today?”

“No, she’s at home.” The barkeep told him.

“Shame, I met her last night and I wanted to see her again.” Desmond said.

“You best be leavin’ that one alone you hear?” The bartender said.

“Why’s that, brotha?” Desmond asked.

“Look sailor, it’s none o’me business, but she’s a widow with a baby boy.” The bartender said. “A sailin’ man like you don’t need a wife and baby clingin’ to him.”

“Well maybe but I’m gonna be here for about a month. Tell her Desmond came to see her, yea?” Des said as he walked out.

---------------

Mama Sallis had done as she promised James. She had told Kate he was there in Savannah and where to meet him. And she did. The next day she had her horse saddled and she took off in the direction of the old church ruins that James had said. That was always where they met and she couldn’t wait to see him. It’d been 2 weeks since she’d kissed him, since she’d felt his body beside her, since she’d felt his touch and since he’d tasted of her love.

Kate rode on but stopped dead in her tracks.

“Where are you going Kate?” Jack asked.

“Just out for a ride.” Kate answered.

“That’s some kind of ride when you’re going as fast as you are.” Jack said.

“What do you want Jack?” Kate asked.

“I thought you might like some company on your ride.” Jack answered.

“I’m just fine, sir, but I thank you just the same.” She gave him a coy look and answered.

Jack nodded. “Should I find out otherwise Kate, you will be sorry.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Kate answered spurring her horse. She rode away leaving him in a cloud of dust.

“If I catch you, I’ll kill you both woman.” Jack hissed.

She rode up to the church and stepped inside. She pulled off her cape and laid it down flat on the grass near the front corner of the ruins. The tree branches above made a gorgeous canapy for her and James to love the afternoon away. She lay down on the cape and relaxed staring up at the tree leaves and then on to the clouds.

James rode up and saw the horse. His heart jumped in his throat and he got off his horse and walked inside.

“I prayed you’d come.” She said.

James said nothing. He simply walked up to her and took her in his arms. He locked his lips with hers and kissed her deeply. She yielded her kiss up to him and opened her mouth so that she could take his tongue between her lips.

“James. I love you so much.” She panted.

“I love you too Kate.” He answered. The urgency took over and he pushed his shirt up over his head and off his body. He tossed it on the grassy floor and began to unbutton the bodice of her dress. He slowly pushed the top portion off her shoulder, exposing her chemise under it. She wasn’t wearing a corset or a bustle.

James smiled. “Apparently you wanted this didn’t you?” He teased. “What would society say if the knew you weren’t wearin’ a corset or a bustle?”

“I don’t care.” She breathed as his thumbs moved over her hard nipples. “I don’t care about anything but you.” She said. “Make love to me James, I want to feel you.”

Her words made his cock twitch a little and he felt it pushing against his britches as he laid there with her. She reached her hand inside his britches and touched him. He closed his eyes and let his mind revel in her hand wrapped around his hard cock.

“Kate.” He groaned. “Ohhhhh.”

James pulled her hand out and then pushed his britches off his legs and then opened up the lower part of her dress. “Gotta have you Kate.”

“Take me.” She groaned pushing her pantelettes down off her legs.

James groaned and pushed his cock into her. He moved deeper and harder, taking her leg in his hand and making her that much wetter as he moved. James leaned down and took her nipple between his lips.

“Ohhhhh, oh James.” Kate whimpered as he made love to her.

“Kate.” He growled in an almost animal voice. “I love you.”

When she came she pulled him inside of her core so deep. Her walls held him as they milked his cock of every bit of his love. James collapsed next to her and pulled her over on to him.

“I’ve needed you so much. Don’t leave me James, please.” Kate said.

“I won’t, I promise you I won’t. We’ll leave Kate. We’ll run away if that’s what we have to do.” James answered. Kate smiled.

“You would do that for me.” She asked.

“One of the perks of bein’ a ship captain.” He smiled showing her the dimples.

“Then we leave.” She said. James smiled with those deepening dimples.

----------------

Jack hid beside the wall of the old church listening to everything they said. “Not if your daddy and I have anything to say about it.” He whispered, pulling his gun and making sure it was loaded. “Not if I have anything to say indeed.”

Chapter 3

“When do you want to leave?” She asked.

“As soon as we can. No more than a couple days.” James said. “You meet me here, 2 days from now. Same time, 4:00 o’clock and we’ll leave.” James said.

“Oh James!” Kate pulled him down and kissed him deeply. She parted her lips and let her tongue move with his. “I love you so much. I’m so glad you’re taking me with you! When you were gone I couldn’t stand to have you gone.”

“Me either, Freckles.” He winked at her as he called her that. James laid her back down on the grass and leaned over her kissing her again. His calloused hands seemed to turn to velvet as his thumb ran over her hard little nipples. Her back arched as he leaned down and took one of her nipples into his mouth.

He moaned gently as his free hand traced little circles, twirling her other nipple between his fingers. He moved his kisses down further over her soft tummy and kissed her, letting his lips nuzzle her tummy. He moved his kisses down a little further, through the soft vee between her legs, and then let his tongue part her warm folds.

“Ahhhh.” Kate moaned as her head fell back. God, what he could do to her and how good he made her feel.

“Let it go Kate.” He said softly as he tasted the evidence of both of them and how much they loved each other.

“Oh yes, James.” She moaned. Her hands instinctively went to his hair. She put her hand on the back of his head and could feel herself getting wetter and soaking his lips with her love. She pushed her hips up to his greedy mouth. James moved two of his fingers inside her and curled them up. The feeling of his fingers inside her was almost more than she could handle.

“James. Oh James.” Kate cried out as she came long and hard against his lips.

He finished and brought her back to consciousness and the laid down next to her. They spent the rest of the early evening wrapped in each other’s arms and loving each other like it was the last time they’d ever be together. Little did they know how close they’d get to exactly that.

-------------------

The posse kept riding, getting every closer to the little church. The sheriff had been informed that the man who killed Harrison Adams was with his whore in the little church. They horses stopped not far outside.

James stopped kissing Kate and looked up and around the ruins of the church. There was way too much commotion going on outside. “Get up Kate.” He said. James pulled on his pants and shielded Kate behind him. Something wasn’t right and he knew it. He pulled his gun and held it beside his hip.

Just then the sheriff poked his head through the doorway. “Drop it Captain Ford.” He said. James looked around and saw the posse all with guns aimed at him.

“What the hell is this?” He asked.

“You just pipe down.” The sheriff said.

“I got a right to know what the hell you’re chargin’ me with!” James exclaimed. He pulled against the hold the sheriff had on him and the ropes that tied his hands.

“James!!” Kate exclaimed as the shoved him up onto his horse.

“It’s alright Kate.” James called. “It’s some kind of mistake. Somebody’s causin’ me some shit. Tomorrow, don’t forget tomorrow!” He called.

And with that they whisked him away and took him to the jail in town. “Hey, Allan Pinkerton!” James yelled. “You wanna clue me in here?”

“Shut up, Ford.” The sheriff called. “We all know you murdered Harrison Adams. You shot him dead in a poker game in Charleston.”

“What?! I don’t even know nobody named Harrison Adams!” James yelled.

“Yea, Ford, sure you don’t. You were identified by someone of high stature in this town. You’ll get plenty time to plead your case to Judge Travers. Besides, it don’t matter what you say Ford, you’re guilty anyway.”

“Well it’s nice to know, I’m innocent until proven guilty!” James yelled as they rode.

They reached the jail and the sheriff threw him in a cell and slammed the door. “Shit.” He muttered, running over all the times he’d been to Charleston and thinking of whether or not he’d ever killed anybody there, and he was certain he hadn’t.

---------------

Kate stood there in the ruins of the old church, trying to make sense of all this. All she knew, all she cared about was that she had to get James out of there. They’d hang him before they even knew they had the wrong man, and she knew from her father’s dealings that Judge Travers wasn’t to be toyed with. He’d sent men to the gallows over a whole lot less.

Kate decided she had to do something and all she could do was go to his ship. She had to talk to Desmond. Maybe he could help her get James back.

Kate mounted her horse and headed into Savannah.

----------------

Desmond decided he had to find Claire again. If she had a son, then so be it, that didn’t matter. All that mattered was he wanted to see her. Desmond had gotten a street number from the bartender and he walked down the Savannah street headed for the address.

He reached the door and knocked on it. A few moments later Claire opened the door, as she held her son in her arms.

“Desmond!” Claire exclaimed. “What…what are you doing here?”

“I, uhm, well I…I wanted to see you again Claire.” Desmond said. “And I wanted to meet your son.”

“I know it’s not the right thing to do, to have a son like this, but well, I love him and I love being a mother.” Claire said.

“Aye lass, but he needs a father too.” Desmond said. He sat down on the chair in the nice little house. “So I am offerin’ m’services, m’lady.” Desmond smiled.

“Well that’s kind of you sir.” She said with a smile. “But you hardly know me.”

“Well ma’am, that is another reason I am here.” Desmond said. “I would like us to get to know each other a whole lot more.”

Claire smiled softly and sat down next to him. “That would be nice.”

----------------

Jack showed up at the house and talked with Ben. “It’s been done.” Jack said.

“Has it?” Ben asked.

“Yes, I got him arrested for murder. He’ll go before Judge Travers tomorrow, and that will pretty much seal it for him.” Jack said.

“Excellent.” Ben said. “Her mother will get the wedding invitations out this week. He’ll be dead by the time the wedding comes and she’ll be yours.”

“And?” Jack asked.

“And what?” Ben answered.

“And what do I get for doing your dirty work?” Jack asked.

“Name your price.” Ben answered. Jack stared back at him with a smirk on his face.

-----------------

James paced the floor of the cell like a tiger ready to pounce. He thought about Kate and something told him they weren’t leaving on the ship tomorrow. James was thirsty. He was a little hungry but he really wanted something to drink. He didn’t have a clue what would happen now and the worst part was that Desmond didn’t know anything about it either.

All he could hope was that Kate would find a way to help him. She was smart and resourceful and knowing her she’d pull the whole building down to get him out of there.

“Get me outta here Freckles.” He muttered, hoping that maybe his verbal thoughts could reach her and she might just be able to find a way to save him. Otherwise, he was a dead man. The sheriff had already said he’d been identified for something he knew he didn’t do, but the bad part was that James had made a lot of enemies along the way. Blockade running was not exactly an honorable profession and before Kate came along there had been a lot of married women and a lot of angry husbands. Any number of them could have found him and done this.

“I’m a dead man.” He said as he sank down on the bunk in the small cell.
