Part 9

"Im what?" Kate sat up in her bed for the first time very aware of what Sun had just told her and her breathing started to shorten in light gasps as she began to panic.

"Kate, just relax." Sun replied putting her hand on Kates shoulder and Kate darted up out of bed not taking Suns advice.

"I cant relax, how can I relax?" She asked pacing the floor barefoot, and then Kate looked back at Sun through troubled eyes asking her earnestly

"Sun what am I going to do?"

Sun got up and walked over to her grabbing her a glass of water, Sun handed it to Kate trying to calm her down, and she replied

"Well for starters, you need to take care of yourself."

Smiling faintly Sun sat down at Kates kitchen table, not sure if Kate had recovered enough to take the news, but she made an executive decision. Kate hadnt taken it as well as she would have liked, but Sun was glad she was here with Kate one on one to talk about it.

Kate slumped down in the chair across from Sun and she sighed, and Sun explained

"I know how you feel, how scary it is at first, to have a baby hereon this island, without the technology and with all the risks involved, but its the most wonderful experience, after it all happens, you forget all your worries, and there will be this one perfect little person looking up at you."

Sun smiled fondly thinking of Ji Yeon and Kate forced a smile back at Sun. She knew her friend meant well, but it wasnt as simple as she made it sound, muttering sadly...."On top of losing Aaron, I dont even think he wants a baby, (Kate paused for a moment and looked back up at Sun with creased brows) he let them take Aaron without even so much as questioning Richard."

Kate looked down into her cup sadly and she muttered

"Of all the times for it to happen, why now?"

She looked back at Sun seeking answers in her infinite wisdom and Sun took Kates hand. Assuring her she replied

"Kate, Sawyer didnt let them take Aaron, Richard did, and he did it putting our best interests at heart."

"You believe him?" Kate asked Sun with a frown, disappointed she was feeling that unwavering army of one feeling again and Sun nodded

"I do,"

She paused for a moment and looked back at Kate explaining "Jin wont talk about what happened here while we were away, but he trusts Richard, and I trust my husband."

Kates brows creased looking back at Sun, wishing she could see things so simply. She missed Aaron. Aaron was her child, the one she was supposed to take care of. He was taken away from her helplessly. Kate didnt even get to say goodbye to him. She couldnt see this baby growing inside her. She had only just found out. Aaron was her son; he was whom she was attached to. It wasnt fair.

Sun could see the discontent on Kates face and she asked her concerned

"Kate whats wrong?"

Kate creased her brow and tears began to form, not yet falling but they were close and she replied

"He doesnt want a baby, he told me he doesnt."

Suns face creased in realization and she nodded, trying to make Kate feel better

"Sometimes we dont know what we want until its given to us."

Kate closed her eyes, thinking this was hopeless, and Sun added trying to shake Kate out of her slump...

"You will never know how he feels until you tell him, and sooner or later, he will find out anyway, its better if you find out this way, so you can be prepared."

Sun had seen Sawyer a couple times with Aaron however and she knew he would make a good father. A lot like her own husband Jin, he just fell into the role and Sun added...

"I think you may be surprised by his reaction Kate, Sawyer has changed."

Sun nodded and Kate looked back at her questioningly. Trying to forget about all this baby stuff for a moment, Kate thought about Sawyer. And how she hadnt seen him since yesterday morning and she asked Sun as she got up and started to make them some tea...

"Have you seen him lately?"

Sun looked up and thought about it for a second ready to answer, but now that she thought about it, she hadnt seen Sawyer for a while and Sun met Kates gaze in pause for a moment replying in surprise

"No. I havent..."

Thinking it was odd. First Kate had disappeared into her house, and now Sawyer. Sun thought as soon as Kate was okay by herself she would enquire around camp as to his whereabouts.

Sawyer had followed Claire to this little alcove, a place he had never seen before and as she walked ahead of him he finally broke the silence

"So you wanna tell me where the hell you been for the last 3 years mamacita?"

He kept walking and added trying to lighten the mood...

"And dont use the under the rock excuse, Kate already took that one."

Claire couldnt help but smile and looked back at Sawyer with a smirk. Her innocent blue eyes looked different now, like she had seen the world in them, and Sawyer looked back at her oddly.

"Your going to be a good father Sawyer." Claire finally replied with a wistful smile and Sawyer asked her confused...

"Say what? You smoking the happy stuff now there Skipper?" Sawyer looked back at Claire still puzzled and she moved over some vines finally answering him, she cast her glance over her shoulder...

"No, but Ive seen you with him, with Aaron, and I can tell he likes you."

Sawyer asked Claire teasing...

"What, your gonna propose to me or something? (Sawyer had a smirk on his face, he knew it, he knew she always had a crush on him and he put his hand above Claires head and replied) But darlin, I dont think Im the marryin type."

She looked back at him with a small smile but kept walking and then Sawyer added, digging a little

"Whyd you abandon him anyway?"

He was genuinely curious to know. But the truth hurt for Claire. Claire creased her brow as they entered the building and she shook her head looking back at Sawyer with a sad glare...

"Its not like that Sawyer," They came into a room with a table and some chairs and Claire turned around to face him and replied

"You think I wanted to leave him? I had to leave him Sawyer, I had to leave him with you because I knew youd take him away from here, I knew youd make sure he was protected."

Sawyer chuckled snidely and he replied

"Well I hate to break it to you blondie, but that aint the way it worked out."

"Of course it is James." Claire answered using Sawyers real name, it made him feel uncomfortable all of the sudden and he looked at her puzzled. Claire continued gesturing for him to take a seat but he neglected her offer with arms folded

"Ive been here, living with these people, the same amount of time you have been with your people. Everything thats happened, I have seen to. It broke my heart to leave him." Claire explained

"But Richard told me I had to help him."

"And you believed that arrogant windbag?" Sawyer asked rolling his eyes. Knowing what Richard was all about. Knowing that he was one of those new age gurus, all the way down to his perfectly ironed pants. And if he hadnt helped them, when it was most necessary, Sawyer would have still hated him.

"I didnt know where I was or what had happened those last few days, but I do remember waking up one morning and realizing Aaron was gone. And after what happened, I assumed you all were. I was devastated, to the point of almost killing myself. I would have too, if Richard hadnt stopped me, if he hadnt told me the truth, that my son was alive and safe and he would see to it that he was returned to me one day."

Claire looked back and met Sawyers gaze with anguished eyes and she began to tear up

"Id missed him so much, it was too hard to go back to the group when I found out the truth. I was so angry with you."

"With me?" Sawyer asked surprised and Claire nodded explaining

"You gave him to her. I knew he was safe, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I had to blame someone, and I blamed you Sawyer."

He creased his brows and looked back at Claire sadly, and she replied softly

"You switched places with him, it should have been you to go with her not him."

Sawyer was rubbing his temple and he sat up and looked back at Claire and replied snidely

"So far you aint winnin me over with the whole convincing thing Blondie."

"Forget it..." Claire stood up looking bewildered, not wanting to dwell on this anymore, deciding to get right to it, she continued..

"Lets get right to it then..."

"Youre here because you want to make sure Aaron is safe right?"

Sawyer creased his brows in awkwardness and he replied

"I wanted to see what the hell was goin on, your friends went to great lengths to get that kid here."

"And you thought I would let them turn him into some sort of science experiment right?"

Claire answered for him. Sawyer rolled his eyes and then he looked back at Claire challengingly standing as well.

"Well if the shoe fits mamacita, you were the one who went AWOL."

Claire shook her head and finally turned the light on a mirror that was behind her and all of the sudden they could see Aaron, and he was in a neighboring room playing with building blocks and Claire looked back at Sawyer watching him.

"You probably dont know this, but Aaron has special telekinetic abilities Sawyer."

Sawyer looked back at Aaron as if in intense thought and then his eyes flashed back to Claires.

"Hes special. They wanted him back here to help the island. But I have been working with them to get him back here for me."

Sawyer looked back at Aaron strangely. All of the sudden the kid looked different to him.

And Claire shook her head knowing what Sawyer was thinking

"He cant see you, or Kate...Or anyone he knew before this, it will break his concentration."

Sawyer shook his head thinking this was too strange, not buying her story and Claire continued taking Sawyers hand in hers in hopes that she could make him understand and she replied

"Hes my son Sawyer, my son. I would never let them hurt him, Im here to protect him...I...I love him so much!" She proclaimed.

Tears began to form in her eyes as she thought about the last 3 years without him and Claire replied

"I may have made a mistake 3 years ago, but I shouldnt have to pay for that for the rest of my life, I have a right to see him, and as his mother, I would never let any harm come to him, I would die first."

"Kate..." But Sawyers words trailed off when he saw that Claire was about to crack, thinking of her as a little sister all of the sudden, he felt the need to look out for her...

She pleaded. And Sawyer closed his eyes, taking Claire into his arms as she began to sob in her grief.

"Hey, hey.." He tried to comfort her and put his hand on the back of Claires head and he replied

"Its okay, we'll just have to find a way to work it out." Sawyer replied holding her as she sobbed.

"He still wants to see her." Claire sobbed, needing someone to talk to about this. "He still calls her mommy."

And then all of the sudden a light bulb clicked in Sawyers head. And dread filled his face, understanding for the first time, what Kate must be going through. If this was Aarons real mother, and she was feeling so much pain from losing him, it must have been a hundred times worse for Kate. Aaron saw Kate as his mother. This was about Aaron and the life he knew. Sawyer felt terrible all of the sudden for leaving her alone to grieve this little boys loss. He had to talk to Kate.

Pulling away from Claire, Sawyer looked into her eyes and he replied

"Claire I gotta go, well talk about the Aaron thing later..." He was already turning around and heading out the door, as he added Just dont let them do anything to him.

He nodded and left Claire behind to try and make sense of Sawyers sudden departure. She turned back to Aaron and knew the time was almost here. She had seen evidence of the erosion herself. If they werent careful, theyd all be sitting in a black hole in about 24 hours. She prayed her son could save them all. And then Claire would spend the rest of her life making up to him the 3 years she missed out on.

Meanwhile, back at camp, Sawyers departure had caused quite the frenzy. Word had even gotten back to Kate by now and she was worried with anxiousness. First Aaron was gone, and now Sawyer! And if anything happened to him she would blame herself. She pushed him out when he tried to come by the other day and she didnt know what was out there. Kate feared this island was far more dangerous now than when they had left.

"I have to find him." Kate declared to Sun as she put some fruit and water inside a small backpack and Sun shook her head in disbelief

"Kate, no, you cant, its too dangerous, we will send out a search party in the morning."

Kate shook her head and replied sternly

"By then it might be too late, I already lost one person I love, and I cant lose him."

Sun creased her brows in worry, but in hindsight, she couldnt stand in Kates way. If that had been Jin or Ji-Yeon she would be the first person to go after them and Sun finally nodded remarking

"Okay but at least dont go aloneJust let me tell Jin that Ill be gone." Although Sun had a feeling Jin wouldnt like it and Kate nodded her head pretending to hear Sun.

"Thanks Sun." She replied smiling, thankful that she had found a real true friend in all of this. Feeling bad for what she was about to do. Kate packed up her bag and replied

"Ill meet you outside then."

But as soon as Sun left, she snuck out her back entrance, backpack in tow and headed into the dangerous forest.

Sawyer had been walking for a long time, when all of the sudden he felt tremors under his feet. He didnt know how long hed been gone. But he knew it was long enough. It was time to kick this bitch into gear. He was going to tell Kate what he thought once and for all. Lay it all out on the table whether she was prepared to listen or not. He was going to make her listen. And then Sawyer thought he saw someone standing in the distance a ways off, scrunching his brows glaring, he couldnt make out who and shouted...

"Hey!"

But as another round of tremors subsided he lost track of the form and it disappeared. Sawyer saw a tree root up and then the loud booming sound of massive machinery move, like an ocean liner horn and he knew. He knew it was happening again.

"goddamit! He cursed.

He breathed in a worry feeling the steam rise now, the heat was coming. They knew it too. Not wanting to panic, but his thoughts werent as disciplined as his senses, and he immediately thought of...

'Kate.'

He had to get to her. They didnt know what they were in for back at camp. This was bad. A storn was brewing and if it was anything like the last one there might not be much left of the island. And Sawyer started to run. He had to get there before the fire started. His breathing heavy he ran and ran, till his legs burned, he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw a flash of someone in front of him. Flinching he could have sworn it was the kid, and Sawyer thought he was losing it.

No time, he thought to himself, no time, he had to get back. Continuing on foot he ran like the devil was chasing him, and then he felt his feet move again. Sawyer started to trek stumbling not even realizing the very ground he treaded through was rising and falling in unison. Sawyer fell flat on his face as a rock caught his shoelace and he grunted as his hard jaw hit the ground.

"Fuck."

Sawyer scrambled to grab for anything stable, but this time the ground was crumbling. It was very unsound; he saw a banyan tree root and dove for it

Nooooo

He clamored as the ground fell away under his feet and the earth split in two. Feeling the ground give way, this time falling out completely from under him. And, Sawyer collapsed into the deep darkness, falling into an early grave, beyond the light of day down into the dark abyss of the island.

His body and face covered by soot and rock, he felt numb. And the world was black. Only time would tell, if the island gods would take his body as a sacrifice or send a messenger along to save him. Only time.

Part 10

Kate felt the quake below her feet and she had to steady herself as the earth shook. Bracing her hand against a tree. And then she saw a crack begin to form beneath the earth. Her eyes opened big as saucers in fear.

And then she squinted, thinking she saw a figure in the distance. She thought it was Aaron and she ran towards it.

"Aaron! Aaron!" She called after him, her pace picking up and then she felt her foot jam against a rock sticking out of the surface taking a tumble herself.

Her face smacked against the dirt and she groaned, finally looking up at where she landed, it was on the edge of one of the large cracks, a new ravine, about 10 feet deep.

Kate thought for a moment that she saw a finger in the rubble and she brushed her hair aside peering closer.

Her eyes opened large in realization when she spotted the familiar blonde mop of hair covered by some of the rubble and debris.

"Sawyer!" She exclaimed in a panic, her heart suddenly pounding fast, pulling herself up. She went over to the shallow side of the ravine and climbed down carefully.

Sawyer Kate exclaimed again as she crawled near him and began to clear away the debris covering his unconscious body. Kate tried her best not to panic, as her hands shook carefully brushing the dirt away from his overturned head. No he couldnt beNo! She would refuse to think it. Her emotions having their way with her however, she began to tear up, her eyes blurring when she heard a cough

"Sawyer?" Kate asked her voice shaking as he turned around to face her, his head, face, and clothing smeared in soot. And he coughed up some dirt he had inhaled.

"Son of a bitch!"

Sawyer coughed some more pushing himself up into a sitting position and he took Kate in with a questioningly glance. Kates smile was bright and she threw her arms around him in a huge bear hug.

He asked her surprised after taking it all in

"Freckles what are you doin here?"

Kate shook her head willing her tears to go away before he could see them and she replied softly...

"Im saving your ass James, what does it look like?"

Pulling away she met his gaze in a warm green smile and she brushed some of his hair away as she looked into his eyes. Sawyer smiled in kind back, both of them sharing a knowing longing look, and he looked up above them, realizing for the first time he had fallen into a ravine and he replied...

"Come on FrecklesLets get you and my clumsy ass outta here."

He looked up again not liking the instability of the ground. They werent safe here and he pulled back and took Kates hand.

Kate smiled relieved that there seemed to be no long-term effects of his fall and she let him help her up out of the ravine.

He looked back at her watching her as she brushed herself off, and Sawyer couldnt help but stand back infatuated by the view she made. Something was different about her now. She had a kind of glow to her skin. Even under the smudges of dirt, he could tell, and Sawyer tried to remember why he was out here in the first place. Oh right, the Aaron thing. Somehow Kate was his kryptonite making him forget about these things, and then he remembered the fall. His eyes filled with concern, thinking about what they needed to do next.

"So your feeling okay, no dizziness?" Kate asked taking out her water bottle and handing it to him.

Sawyer smiled briefly charmed by her concern over him and smirked back at Kate taking the bottle from her, he replied...

"Yeah Freckles, Im okay."

He took a swig and he replied...

"Guess the hero decided to take a break for the day huh? Got Sheena out here instead."

Kate flipped her eyes up and she answered...

"Yeah, well its a dirty job, but someone had to save your skinny ass Sawyer."

He smirked back at her and they started walking.

"So you finally broke out of that joint huh? Whats the matter, Jackass drivin you up the wall with his incessant whining?"

He watched her walk in front of him thinking how hot she looked in her little jungle get up. And he remembered how much he missed her all of the sudden.

"Sawyer!" Kate exclaimed looking back at Sawyer incredulously. Thinking his mouth was certainly on fire today. Wondering if it was some concussion talking or just him, thinking, no that was definately all Sawyer. She shook her head with a smile and kept walking forward, remarking as her back was turned to him

"Maybe if you paid more attention to...." But her lips were cut of by his as he spun her around into his arms.

And in a flash he was on her like a tiger pouncing on his prey. Lips smashing against hers, Kate barely had time to breath let alone gasp as his arms wrapped around her ferociously and he backed her into the nearest hard surface. The island be damned.

Kate needed him too, she needed him like her oxygen to breath and her lips hungrily inhaled all he had to give, tongue sliding against tongue, breath mixed with breath as they panted like two animals in heat.

No force of nature on earth could stop them as he devoured her whole, ripping her clothes off like freeing her from the confines. Grunting and Kate grunted back when she felt him grind against her.

His lips reached for hers again, and Kate felt herself being lifted into his arms.

"James..." She panted seeing the world in blurs and shapes as the tree line whizzed past her dizzily and she was lowered onto her back.

"Hope you brought a spare Freckles." Sawyer growled, and before Kate knew it, she felt the cool air caress her naked thighs and already moist waiting sheath as he ripped her panties off.

"James." She gasped again at a loss for words, her womanhood already swollen and aching for him.

Sawyer was hard like a raging bull for her and he muttered into her neck before biting down...

"You just couldnt stay put couldja Freckles?"

"eahhhhh..." She moaned as his mouth began to suck on her flesh causing a sensation of heat below the surface. His legs weaving between her hot thighs.

"Wouldnt take my food...Stubborn as hell..." He growled and sunk his teeth down into the soft flesh of her breast. And Kates eyes closed in pleasure, unable to give him words, only more moans of pleasure.

"Sawyer." She gasped wanting him to just fuck her already, she was pregnant and horny as hell and he was torturing her this way. Kate couldnt even remember what they were arguing about earlier, just needing her man. And his lips burned a hot ring of fire suddenly around her nipples.

"unhhhhhh..." She gasped unable to take it anymore as his dick pushed up against her tight sheath. Kate rubbed against him trying to taunt him, but Sawyer was continuing his assault nipping her breasts and Kate became aggressive all of the sudden, impatient, she flipped him over onto his back and cradled his dick in-between her thighs. Craving it, wanting more and more and her legs wrapped up over his hips, her thighs sliding against his tan skin, and feet bouncing against his perfect ass, and Kate was on another planet.

"Mmmmh" She moaned as he took her with him on that rocket into the stars, not even aware of their surroundings. Kates hair was pressing into the leaves of the jungle floor, both of them wild animals mixed up in a kind of passion that only the jungle could understand as love. "Sawyer..." She gasped thinking he was too big for her, her fingers pressing into his flesh leaving white marks behind, but oh she loved it so, what he was doing, thinking she couldnt possibly handle any more pleasure, but he continued to take her to new heights as he moved with hunger and skill teetering on the edge of wild unbridled passion. And when she looked up into his dark eyes, she knew. Kate knew there was no going back, she loved him, and oh hell did she love him.

She saw the yearning behind his blue depths and Kate knew it matched her own, barely able to form a comprehensible thought after what he was doing to her body, but Kate wanted to tell him so badly. As his body made sweet music with hers, she wanted to tell him she was with child. Carrying his child. Their bodies speaking in the language of sex, the only language that both Kate and Sawyer could hold nothing back from one another and she pressed her lips hotly against his as he rounded his final peak to climax.

Her hand reached down in-between them and she touched the dark coils of hair surrounding his hardness as he moved tightly within her woman hood and she caressed him softly. It was a sharp contrast to his hard movements and Sawyer gasped nearly spilling out, she brought him over the edge in those last final moments and they saw into each others souls.

It was a deep kind of love, not the kind of love for amateurs and his body shook out the last of his white love while Kate quivered below him. Knowing that after something like what they just experienced, she wouldnt be craving food as much as she would sex. Her hands tangled through his long brown hair and his hard chest rose and fell above her.

Kate closed her eyes for a minute bathing in the afterglow, their bodies still humming and panting and as his thumb brushed a smudge of dirt across her breast she took his lips in hers. Just needing to taste him for a moment more, their tongues touched and lips smacked.

He cast her a small smile, one meant just for his Freckles, quickly and then his head laid to rest on her breast as he closed his eyes, enjoying his own moment of sweet afterglow.

Kate smiled faintly, struggling within herself to tell him versus not yet, waiting for the right moment, she wasnt sure, but gave way to all rational thought finally and just blurted out as her hand touched his stubbled cheek...

"Sawyer, Im pregnant."

Kate could have heard a pin drop in that moment. Sawyers shaken out of is little ethereal haze in a split second and he leaned back looking into her anxious green eyes, not sure what to think, what the hell to say, or do. He had never been speechless before, his dark blue eyes glazed over in shock.

And Kate looked at him expectantly; a little bit nervous to what hed say, wanting him to say something.

"Come again?"

Sawyer swallowed, trying to find the words to describe how he was feeling, terrified, overjoyed, no, scared shitless was more like it.

Kate was waiting, her breath hanging on his reply.

"Im..."

"I know what..." Sawyer cut Kate off just about to answer her, knowing he had heard her right the first time, when he heard voices in the distance...

"I think I saw tracks over here, she cant be far, she only had an hour lead."

Sawyer recognized the voice as Suns, and then he heard Jackass pipe in...

"You dont know Kate like I do."

He couldnt help but roll his eyes, thinking what a pompous windbag. But none of that mattered, cause he and Kate were sitting here very naked, in the middle of the jungle, and those voices were just around the corner. He moved up off of Kate, both of them too stunned on guard, not wanting to get caught with their pants down so to speak, but somehow Sawyer knew it was too late and he dove into his pants blocking Kate from their view while she hurried up.

"Shes probably half way up...." But Jacks words trailed off when he saw Sawyer standing there yanking his shirt down over his head and Jack sneered at the site.

"Jackass." Sawyer nodded to him addressing Jack and he rolled his eyes. But nothing could have prepared him for what he saw next, peering behind Sawyer he saw a flash of flesh behind the tree and he stepped over knowing Sawyer was hiding something. But she stepped out before he could get a chance to surprise her and she answered casually

"Hi."

If smoke could have come out of Jacks ears at that moment, it would have, and his nostrils began to flare, shaking his head in disbelief he asked Kate angrily

"Hi? Weve been searching for you for the last 2 hours and find you two here..." He sneered unable to even say it.

Sun came up with her brows creased, she knew what Kate was going through right now and she told Jack...

"Jack, just let it go. Were all safe, thats what is important."

She proclaimed and Jack shook his head looking accusatorily back at Kate he replied sharply

"I expected better judgment from you Kate."

Kate creased her brows sadly, and Sawyer had had just about enough of Jacks shit.

You never bothered to tell another living soul that we could be swallowed up into a crater at any given moment? Yeah I can see why she picked you!" He spat back sarcastically.

"Thats enough Jack!" Kates voice was raised and angry not liking what Jack was insinuating and Jack looked back at Kate and shook his head with a satiric smile

"Yeah two peas in a pod arent you? Kates just a manipulative bitch and your just a pompous good for nothing piece of shit!"

"She should have left your worthless ass back there unconscious and useless to the mission."

Sawyer couldnt handle anymore. Kate present or not, he threw the first punch and Jack went flying.

Under normal circumstances Sun wouldnt want the two men fighting, Jin was here too, but she knew there was no way to stop this. It had been a long time coming between those two men. Jack got up and spit out a little blood from his mouth, wiping it and then he lunged back at Sawyer.

"You son of a bitch, never know when to quit do you?"

Jack pounded his fist into Sawyers face and the group heard a smack.

"Stop it!"

Kate shouted angrily daring to inch closer to the two swinging men

"Your one to talk Ozzy, Im surprised you even found your shoes today." Sawyer spat back going in for another lunge as Jack ducked and tackled Sawyer to the ground.

"Stop!" Sun shouted having enough and she looked back at Jin helplessly. Jin just stood idly by and watched in entertainment.

"Go to hell Sawyer!"

Smack.

"Im already in hell with you here Jackass!"

Smack.

"You knocked her up and let her go hauling her ass around the jungle!"

"Anything else you wanna blame me for ?"Sawyer growled as he got a sharp elbow into Jacks jaw.

And then Jack twisted around, his hands around Sawyers throat.

He blamed Sawyer for everything. His failed relationship with Kate, his fall from grace. It should have been him that day to jump. Not slimy Sawyer and Jack sneered back at him his beady eyes and red face hot.

"Your worthless Sawyer!" He hissed, Sawyer got one knee into his groin and Jack groaned in pain.

"ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!" A voice from behind finally caught their attention and Sawyer looked back to see Kate standing there looking all Sheena with her hands on her hips.

"What was that Freckles? I think I just went deaf in my right ear."

"I said, thats ENOUGH!" Kates eyes flashed fire as she met Sawyers gaze and she pulled him up.

Sawyer shook his head thinking Jack was such an asshole when Kate exclaimed letting go of his arm

"I dont know about the rest of you, but Im going to find Aaron." She proclaimed.

Sawyer looked back at Kate with confusion. Sun and Jin simply nodded and got their things ready to go. Once Jacks puckered face evened out from a bright shade of crimson to a rosy pink he picked himself up and forged his way up to the front. Needing something to focus his anger on.

Sawyer hung back watching them all pass him as he thought about what had just happened, and what Kate had just revealed to him earlier. And all the sudden, he remembered how dangerous this island was, and he called back to him

"Like hell you are Freckles!"

Kate was already a few paces away when she heard Sawyer, turning around to face him she walked back to him her green eyes ablaze with fire and she asked him.

"Excuse me?"

Sawyer remained steadfast and held his ground replying

"I said, you aint goin. Its not safe." Sawyer explained, glancing back at Jin, he knew what Sawyer was talking about, besides the fact that Kate was pregnant now, the jungle was the last place she should be out runnin around and he added

"Sun, can you take her back to her house?"

Sun looked back at Kate hesitantly, since she was her friend, but she knew deep down that Sawyer was right and Sun asked Kate

"Kate would you like to go back with me?"

Kate shot daggers with her eyes back at Sawyer for ordering her around like this. She definitely wouldnt take this one lying down. But decided it would be better to let him think he had the upper hand, so she could go after Aaron on her own and Kate replied coolly

"Thats not necessary Sun, I can find the way back on my own."

She smiled briefly back at Sun, but Sawyer was onto her before she could say lie and he cut in

"No, Sunshine, think she needs an escort."

Kate looked back at Sawyer through eyes of silent rage, unable to believe he was doing this to her. She was going to seriously kick that skinny ass of his when they both got back. And she cast him a your going down glare as she walked by with Sun.

"Come on Sun, lets leave the men to do their manly business." Kate replied sarcastically. Casting Sawyer one final spiteful glare, Sun quickly went over to kiss Jins cheek and she wished him good luck. Hoping he would be home soon.

Sawyer rolled his eyes, as Kate left. He knew she would try to go back on her own, but he hoped Sun could at least try to talk some sense into her.

He followed Jack begrudgingly, still stewing in his anger over Jackass just generally being himself. Wondering with a smirk if Jack even knew where he was going. He looked back at Jin with a smug grin and thought most likely not. Maybe hed let Jack walk over a cliff first before they made sure the kid was safe.

They continued walking for a few more minutes and just as Jack rounded the path heading northwest, there was another rumble. Sawyer and Jin had to hold onto trees to steady themselves and Jack asked no one in particular

"What the hell was that?"

"You mean you didnt feel the first one around all that padded heading of yours Jackass?" Sawyer asked him sarcastically.

Jack just rolled his eyes and he asked him

"Where the hell are we going anyway?"

Sawyer smirked back at Jin, loving that Jack didnt know shit at this particular moment in time, and he was basking in the glory of that. But the glory was short-lived when the sirens started to go off, signaling the alarm.

"We have to get to the Orchid!" Jin exclaimed looking back at Sawyer and Sawyer nodded in agreement. His smile fading to a look of concern and alarm.

"What? Whats going on?" Jack asked them, as they began doubling back..."What do those sirens mean?" Jack asked over the loud horn, but neither Jin nor Sawyer listened.

They hurried back towards camp, however along the way, Sawyer stepped on something sharp. Looking down he recognized the familiar item. It was Kates Swiss army knife. She carried it with her always. Thinking it was odd that she left it here. But then his eyes widened as realization came to him and where they were. When he was with Kate, they hadnt yet made it this far. Which meant that Kate didnt go back to the camp, she doubled back to go after Aaron.

"Son of a bitch!" He muttered under his breath. Thinking he was sick and tired of saying that today and he looked back at Jin.

"Kato, take him back to camp and then get everyone down to the orchid."

Jin nodded in affirmation and Jack just looked at Sawyer asking him snidely as another tremor passed

"And where are you going?"

Sawyer held up Kates knife and replied simply

"Im going after her."

Jin replied,"Be careful Sawyer." And Sawyer nodded in agreement..."You too."

Jack just followed Jin back knowing the people needed him. And let Sawyer go after Kate.

Sawyer still didnt have good tracking skills, but he knew Kate did, and she probably just followed their old tracks, so Sawyer went back the way they came. And low and behold he found her not long after. Surprising her from behind, Sawyer asked Kate
"So you ditch Sunshine before or after you made this little detour Freckles?"

Kate looked back at him and rolled her eyes.

"If your trying to stop me James, dont bother, Ive heard enough of your bullshit to last me a lifetime."

Sawyer chuckled ironically at Kates response and he shook his head

"Well Freckles, incase you havent heard, the sirens are goin off and your still out here. In most emergency situations, sirens are bad, and this time aint no different."

Kate kept walking and she asked him

"How do I know this isnt one of their tricks, or some stupid fire drill James? This never happened when we were here."

"No, but it happened when We were here." He answered and Kate looked back at Sawyer questioningly.

And Sawyer added..."Besides, I aint letting you go off on your own with our baby and no bodyguard Freckles."

She looked back at him again a crease in her brows. Sawyer tugging at her heartstrings when he mentioned their unborn child. But she still had to find Aaron.

Sawyer knew it was time to tell Kate finally. Tell her what happened. He didnt like talking about it, but if it could help to save her life and everyone elses, he would. Taking her hand in his, he replied to Kate

"Come on Freckles, Ill tell you what those sirens mean, but we gotta get to shelter, okay?"

Kate agreed, her fear beginning to set in as she took in the magnitude of the situation and she answered back to Sawyer

"Okay."

Jack and Jin had gotten all of the others to the Orchid. Just as they arrived at the elevator doors to take the first group down, Jin saw in the distance the red lava flow out of the mountain. And it was rushing down the mountainside at warp speed.

"Its here!" He proclaimed. The sky smoking up as trees became engorged in flames along the jungle side and Jin repeated himself, noting

"Its here!"

He had prayed that Sawyer would be back by now with Kate and his wife, but still no site of them and he turned to Jack and asked him

"Have you seen Sun?"

Jack shook his head and looked out to the deathly scene in front of their eyes. The island was literally being swallowed whole at the moment and he replied

"No...no I havent."

All of the sudden, Jin felt pits in his stomach sink in primal fear.

"Cmon Freckles, in here." Sawyer replied leading Kate into one of the islands many secret hatchways.

"How many of these are there?" Kate asked feeling like she was popping down another rabbit hole. Truthfully, these places creeped her out, but having Sawyer here with her helped a lot.

"Dont know Peaches, maybe for kicks some day, we should go around and find them allCan do all kinds of stuff in these things" He added looking back at Kate with a smirk.

Kate flipped her eyes up and felt another rumble followed by steam and she shuddered behind him as he led the way inside

Whats going on out there? Kate finally asked Sawyer as they got inside. It was another hatch, very similar looking to the one they occupied 3 years ago, with the button and computer station and he gestured for her to take a seat on the couch.

"Its a volcanoactivated whenever some asshole tries to move the island."

Kate looked back at him with creased brows as he operated the stove and put on a pot of water for tea
"Try to move the island?" She was so confused and she asked him alarmed"If its a volcano shouldnt we go out to make sure everyone else is safe, if Aaron is safe?"

Sawyer shook his head and handed her a cup and he replied casting her a sideways glance as he sat down

"You forgot to mention yourself Freckles"

Kate creased her brows utterly confused and she stood up, setting down her cup, wanting to go back for them and Sawyer got up taking her hand

"Kate, you promisedthey are all okay, Jin is bringing everyone back to the Orchid and I guarantee you, Aaron is well protected, infact I saw him earlier today."

She looked back at him in disbelief and asked Sawyer incredulously

"You saw him and you didnt tell me?"
Sawyer sighed running his hand through his hair and he sat down with another sigh

"Jesus Christ woman!" Sawyer exclaimed thinking if this were what the next 50 years would be like he was in for a ride. And he took Kates hand and yanked her down on the couch next to him wanting to set her straight

"I wanted to make sure he was safe, and he is, Mamacita is looking out for him, hes on the other side of the mountain in the Montana station. The safest place there is on this island"

He looked back at Kates enraged eyes and cut her off before she could even start taking her hand in his

"And you got more than yourself to look out for now FrecklesIts dangerous out there.I know cause Ive been out there when that volcano went off and it aint a time to be playing Marco Polo in the magic forest"

Kate met Sawyers gaze for the first time, her eyes filled with concern for him, for whatever he went through and out of respect for him, she decided to let him continue

"Im listening" She replied softly and placed a lock of hair behind her ear.

Sawyer nodded and closed his eyes briefly, not caring to relive this but he had to tell her the truth, and Sawyer began

"When you guys left, we thought you were all deadThe island went back in time about 30 years"

Kate creased her brows again confused and Sawyer replied

"The only way, we realized where we were, or when, was when another ship wrecked on the east side of the islandthat group of hippies was a trip."
He smirked back at Kate trying to add some light heartedness to the irony of his story, and he continued

"Was about a year later Ben returned, he told us all about you, the Oceanic 6, and that you had survivedBy this time the island was already starting to change, and somehow they came to the consensus that they needed you guys to come back here to fix the problem, Widmore told them to bring you back, or more importantlyAaron."
He turned her hand over in his lap and looked down to her fingers weaved between his and Sawyer continued

"Locke and Ben got in a fight, so to speak. About who was the better kiss ass, and thats when the shit hit the fan"

He took in a breath and explained

"You see, when Widmore came, Charles Widmore, he wanted the world to see the island, he was a businessman and thought it had marketable properties, and for some reason seemed indebted to Ben, so when the talking heads got together, they realized that none of that would matter if the island wasnt hereBut the natives, Richard and his people didnt want to have anything to do with Widmore and it started an all out warBefore our people could even figure out what was going on, there was an attack on our campWidmore sent more of his GI Buddies in to handle the situation, but they actually burned out a few of our houses and the encampment by the beach, the one you saw when we arrived"

Kate met Sawyers gaze with creased brow, not knowing if she could hear anymore, but Sawyer still had more to say

"It was in the middle of the night when we realized what was going on, heard a few screams and then practically choked in the fumes, thats when I found out my place had been torched, course while I was in it."

Kate met Sawyers gaze horrified, rage filled her green eyes at those monsters that did that to him and he remarked trying to brush off the bad memory

"Anyway, Richard got us all out of there and into safety, ever since we have been in an alliance with the natives, agreeing that we would be soldiers of the island and protect it first and foremost"

He sighed and added.

"Course that all changed when Gandhi finally found a way to get off and go after you."

Sawyer met Kates gaze with creased brows, a tender moment and he explained..

"Once he had gotten off and I found out Ben was going after him, I knew I had to get to you first, I didnt want you to come back here, didnt want you to be put in harms way"

Kates lip was trembling in sadness.

"Baby." She whispered sadly, feeling all the pain Sawyer was feeling as Kate reached up and carefully brushed her fingers over his scar. The scar she now knew that fire had caused. Ben had caused. And the hate surfaced in her for a brief moment thinking about how she could have lost him then. Kate couldnt think about it anymore, it was too hard. He had seen so much terror. For the first time she had regretted not being here to protect him. But he took care of these people, he was their leader, Kate could see that now. They all looked up to him. She couldnt believe she was the last to see it.

She leaned in to kiss him tenderly, her palm flat against his warm face and Kate whispered

"I love you James." She didnt know if she was hormonal from the pregnancy, or just emotional from hearing his story, but Kate added...

"I love you more than any other man Ive known." Kate kissed him again and Sawyer kissed her back, his eyes misty from her words. She didnt know how long he had waited to hear her say those very words. Just thankful that she was okay and here with him now. He wiped away a stray tear on her cheek and met Kates green gaze, replying with certainty

"I love you too Freckles" Smiling briefly he kissed her back and looked into her eyes wanting to give her the answer she had so desperately seeked before and he put his hand on her belly, meeting her gaze with smirking eyes, he replied

"And I cant wait till your all big and round...
barefoot and belly up" He added with another smirk as he kissed her again flirtingly and Kate wrapped her arms around him.

She looked down at his hand with a blush and shook her head replying with a spark in her eyes
"I just bet you cant"

"So are you going to rub my feet and make me breakfast in bed?"

Kate smiled sweetly back at Sawyer and he smirked down at her his lips taking hers in his own and he replied

"Oh yeah?" She asked him with a glint in her eyes. And he smiled drawing her closer, replying with his breath brushing her cheek

"Yeah."

There was a moment between them as the light flashed in-between their eyes and then they came together again. A whirl of emotions, sanctitude, fear of the unknown, love, longing, and the anxiousness and nervousness of becoming new parents. And he kissed her neck, brushing his lips and stubble over her silky soft skin in a trail. God she tasted so good, even after wrestling in the leaves and in this dingy shelter, she tasted just like strawberries.

His hands traveled up under her tank top slowly, smirking with his mouth on her flesh as he felt her erect peaks react to his touch. "Were gonna make it out of here alive Freckles, I promise"

Kate closed her eyes tightly and clung to him admitting in a whisper after a long moment
"Im scared James"

He closed his eyes tighter for a second and whispered back in understanding
"I know baby."

His hand covered her head and he replied his lips brushing her neck

"If its the last thing I do Im gonna get you outta here Freckles"

He pulled back and met her gaze longingly, his lips finally finding hers and they kissed for a long while and then Sawyer finally answered her first question, toying with her hair he met her hazy green gaze and replied

He smiled musingly back at Kate and she met his gaze with a spark in her eyes. His words made her heart go pitter-patter. Kate couldnt understand why, he didnt say yes, but he didnt say no either. And she looked forward to it, for the first time, she wasnt desperate to hide behind a man, she could just be herself. "Its a deal then."

That wasnt the first deal she had promised for him, but Kate thought she would leave that story for another day. And she met his gaze once more taking his hand

About a half hour later they were dressed and Sawyer climbed up to the top of the hatch

"What? What is it?" Kate asked worriedly from below.

He gave her his hand and pulled her up to get a view next to him on the ladder and Kates eyes widened in amazement

"Come on!" Kate climbed up over Sawyer and began running towards the camp. She thought being in a low-lying place they were the most at risk.

It didnt take them very long to find the orchid. Kate shuddered to think what happened to everyone, or god forbid what happened to Aaron. And Kate met Sawyers gaze hesitant to open, hoping he would be brave enough to take the first step. She feared finding them all in charred embers and he cranked the large steel doors open.
Calling in hesitantly

"Hello? Anybody in here?"

Juliet was the first to hear them and she looked back at Jin, who was still clinging to Ji Yeon. The fire had come so quickly; they had no choice but to bolt the doors. But that hadnt stopped Jin from pounding on them for the last two hours. Juliet finally gave him his daughter to calm him down. Feeling hopeless, but when she heard Sawyers voice, she felt hope again.

"Were down here!" Juliet answered back and looked over at Jack. There still was resentment there on Juliets part. She had tried to take the high road, but she couldnt get past the fact that he left her here to rot in this hellhole. And she got up just in time to see Sawyer and Kate round the corner, Jin had run to the door before Juliet unlatching it for Sawyer and Kate as his eyes searched the rocky landscape

"Wheres Sun? Where is my wife?"

Jin looked behind them worriedly and Kate looked behind her confused. Just then they saw Juliet wondering what the hell was going on.

"James?" Sawyer looked back at Juliet and Kates head snapped back to her and she explained to him with calm voice

"Sun was out there, we thought she was with Kate, but now we think she may have fallen behind."
Sawyer looked back at Juliet concerned and then dread all the sudden spread across Kates face in realization. And she finally confessed

"Sun was with me, but when we left, I told her to go back to camp to be with her husband and daughter"

Her green gaze met Sawyers fearful and Kate shook her head asking everyone for confirmation, desperate to find a lead any

"No one has seen her since this morning?"

Kate got a series of headshakes and blank stares and she all the sudden felt a sense of dread. If something had happened to Sun, it was all her fault. And she creased her brow in sadness and regret, looking back at Sawyer, Kate replied

"We have to find her, I have to find her!"

She didnt know if Sawyer would have objections this time or not but she didnt care, she was a determined woman. Sawyer knew when he met Kates gaze that she was going back out there come hell or high water and he replied
"Fine Im goin with you then."

"So are we!" Jack chimed in and Jin was the first to bolt out the door. He had given Ji Yeon to Hurley and he declared

"We must find her, I will not sleep until my wife is found."

Kates heartstrings tugged when she saw how determined Jin was, and she was just as much, desperate to make it up to him Kate forged ahead with him. Which left Sawyer in the back with Jack and he rolled his eyes

"Going to have to get used to the ashes doc, people have a tendency to spin this island like the damn wheel of fortune."

Jack looked back at Sawyer serious for a moment and he replied,"So thats what happened, someone tried to move the island again?"

Sawyer nodded his head as they kept walking and remarked

"Someone always does"

They got to a ravine, this one was different from the one Sawyer had fallen in, it actually had a small creek running through it, untouched by the lava and flames and Kate jumped down

"Easy Freckles!" Sawyer warned her but Kate paid no attention to his warnings skirting the creek line for any sign, and then her eyes spotted what she was looking for

"Here." Kate exclaimed as the rest of the group jumped down to join her and Kate exclaimed
"These are her tracks"

She pointed along the riverbank following them and then Kates eyes grew large adding as she was identifying what she found

"And there is another set of tracksa manmedium buildhiking boots, about 175 pounds"

And then her mouth dropped open in realization of whose tracks they were and she looked back at the group, her eyes ending up on Sawyers

"I think shes with BenSun is with Ben!"
