Chapter 22

Chapter 23

James rode in the car with Sayid without saying a word. He thought about all the times he and Kate spent together. He thought about the way she threw the magazine at the door when he left her the first time. This is Lynn Holmes from the bridal salon at the Wynn Las Vegas. May I speak to Kate Austen please? The voice said.

Oh hello Ms. Austen, I need to speak with you about your plans. Lynn said. We have some things to finalize.

My plans? Kate asked. Okay where is this going, she thought.

Yes, maam. Mr. Ford called and told us to spare no expense. Lynn said.

Who was that? Claire asked as Kate hung up the phone.

Apparently, James has arranged a wedding for us. Kate said.

Chapter 28

Two months had passed since she had gotten the phone call about planning their wedding and it was just about time for it to happen. Kate was excited. James was giving her the wedding of her dreams and he had spared no expense. Claire had helped her pick out her dress and Desmond had gone with James to pick out his tuxedo.

This wedding would mark the last time that he would see Laura for a while. She, her mother and Sayid would leave for Saudi Arabia in 4 days. James was happy for Susan and Sayid. He had asked Sayid to be his best man and Susan was Kates maid of honor. Desmond and Claire would also be there and of course, Laura would be the flower girl. The guest list was rather small, only a few mutual friends between Sayid, James and Susan, and some of Susans family.

The grand ballroom of the Wynn Las Vegas was beautifully decorated with elegant tiny white lights and dramatic black and white tablescapes. Each table had incredible silver candelabras with white candles and encircled with burgundy roses.

In the middle of the ballroom were chairs draped with white satin and tied with black satin bows. There was a center aisle leading to an archway made of English Ivy infused with white lights and babys breath. Under the archway was a white kneeling bench with a border of burgundy roses.

Kate was dressing when she heard a knock at the door. The hotel had set her up with a suite in which to dress and another one in which James could dress. Come in? Kate answered.

A little blonde head poked its way through the door. Aunt Kate, youre so pretty! Laura bounced in and up to Kate.

Well so are you. Youre practically a lady! Kate gushed. Laura spun around in her little white dress with the black satin sash. The little dress had a full skirt and the sash was tied in the back in a large bow.

I am. Mommy says I look like an angel. Laura said.

Well I agree with Mommy. Shes right. Kate said. Kate kneeled down to talk to Laura. Laura immediately hugged her around her neck. What was that for?

Because you make Uncle James real happy. Mommy doesnt know but I saw Uncle James real upset once. She hung her little head and looked up at Kate. I was supposed to be in bed but I didnt wanna sleep, so I sat on the stairs and I listened to them.

Yea, and he was real sad. But then you cam along and he was happy again. She said.

Well Im glad I make him happy. She ran her finger down Lauras little nose. And Ill tell you a secret. He makes me very happy too. Laura smiled really big.

Uh huh, I know that. Laura said. I can see it, when youre around him your eyes get real bright. Are we ready to go get married now?

I think so. Kate said.

Can I call Uncle James and tell him? Laura asked.

Of course you can. Kate said. Laura went over to the phone and picked up the receiver. She reached into her pocket and got a little small piece of paper. She pressed the button.

Hullo maam, can I have the dressing room where my Uncle James is please? Uhm, James Sawyer. Hes about to get married. Thank you. The operator connected Laura.

Yea. James said.

Uncle James, shes ready. Laura said.

She is? Hows she look, lil bit? He asked.

She looks real pretty. Laura said looking Kate up and down.

Okay, well tell her Sayidll be there pretty quick to bring you two down. He said.

I got it! Laura said. Kate had to laugh at how grown up she was acting. A few minutes later Sayid appeared at the door to escort Kate and Laura. Sayid!! She bounced as she called his name.

Hello, my tiny one. Laura jumped into his arms. You look very pretty.

Thank you. Laura answered sweetly.

Kate you are stunning. And she was. The dress was incredible. It was ultra formal and had filled every dream she had of what a wedding gown should look like. It had an off the shoulder sweetheart neckline. The sleeves were long and came to points at her hands. The bodice of the dress was velvet which came to points down at her waist. She was stunning. Her veil was graduated lengths of tulle that stretched out past the edge of her train.

Kate doubled the train and veil all over and carried it over her arm as Sayid escorted her to the grand ballroom. When they got to the ballroom Laura bounced excitedly as she helped Kate fluff her dress.

Its so pretty! She gushed. And its long, its real long!! I want one just like it when I get married.

Are you ready Kate? Sayid asked.

She let out a deep breath. Yes Sayid, Im ready.

Sayid nodded to one of the wedding planning assistants and she opened the door. James was wearing a black tux and standing at the front of the alter. The guests were seated on either side of the isle and the dinner and cake tables were set up on the other side of the ball room. The tiny little white lights in the flower centerpieces and around the alter made it look like little candles in the room. The lights were dimmed, the minister stood next to James and the music began to play.

Kate walked in on Sayids arm as Laura walked ahead of her. She thought about everything that had happened to her, about what Jack had done, about the coming baby, about how James had rescued her from that situation. He had done nothing but love her since she met him. All he wanted was to love her, and all she wanted was to be with him. It didnt matter where or under what circumstances, so long as they were together.

They had a home now. They had the beautiful ranch hed bought for them and they had Desmond and Claire to live on it and work it, and Laura was going to be well educated and well taken care of in Saudi Arabia with Sayid and her mother.

Everything was perfect and there in front of her about to take her hand as his wife, was the man she lived for, her knight in shining armor, her flawed but perfect man, her protector, her lover and the father of her child.

James took her hand and held it gently. This is it, Freckles. Are you ready?

Kate gave him a smile. Are you ready for what Im going to do to you tonight.

Shh, not in front of the preacher. He teased. They reached the alter and the minister began the service. She turned to James and smiled. He pursed his lips, blowing her a kiss and winked at her.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered her today in the sight of God and the face of this company to join together James and Kate in holy matrimony The ministers words trailed off as Kate gazed at James.

I love you. She whispered. He smiled and mouthed, I love you, back to her.
